Une vague de pr\u00e8s de 150 Douglas C-47 et C-53 en provenance de Tunisie approche de la Sicile. L\u2019\u00eele est en cours de reconqu\u00eate suite \u00e0 l\u2019op\u00e9ration Husky - alors la plus grande op\u00e9ration amphibie de l\u2019histoire \u2013 lanc\u00e9e dans la nuit du 9 au 10 juillet. Cependant, les contre-attaques allemandes continuent et maintiennent la tension.<br \/>\nUn tir isol\u00e9 contre ces appareils d\u00e9clenche alors une cascade de r\u00e9pliques de la part des forces am\u00e9ricaines navales et terrestres, et va causer le plus grave incident fratricide de l\u2019arm\u00e9e am\u00e9ricaine, abattant 23 appareils, en endommageant 37 autres, faisant 318 victimes dont 60 tu\u00e9s parmi les \u00e9quipages et 81 parmi les parachutistes.<\/p>\n<p>Non respect des corridors de s\u00e9curit\u00e9, avance sur l\u2019horaire pr\u00e9vu, mauvaise diffusion de l\u2019information, mauvaise coordination des troupes, mauvaise visibilit\u00e9, erreur de reconnaissance des cibles, mauvaise authentification par les appareils eux-m\u00eames, non respect des consignes de tirs, fatigue des artilleurs sous pression\u2026 \u00e0 diff\u00e9rents degr\u00e9s, toutes ces causes ont leur part dans cette trag\u00e9die.<br \/>\nDe tout temps, l\u2019identification des troupes a \u00e9t\u00e9 une pr\u00e9occupation, depuis les banni\u00e8res de la cavalerie du Moyen-\u00c2ge aux cocardes de l\u2019aviation militaire de la 1\u00e8re Guerre Mondiale. D\u00e9j\u00e0, la forme et le contraste des insignes nationaux \u00e9taient reconnus comme prioritaires sur les couleurs, faisant abandonner par exemple au Royal Flying Corps son Union Jack, pr\u00eatant \u00e0 confusion avec les croix allemandes, au profit d\u2019une cocarde ronde telle que celle utilis\u00e9e par la France, puis les \u00c9tats-Unis. Des marquages additionnels ont \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Les enseignements de la catastrophe de l\u2019op\u00e9ration Husky furent retenus pour l\u2019op\u00e9ration Overlord, le d\u00e9barquement du 6 juin 1944 en Normandie. Anticipant sur l\u2019encombrement de l\u2019espace a\u00e9rien, la saturation du syst\u00e8me IFF, et la grande confusion pr\u00e9visible lors de l\u2019assaut, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 donn\u00e9 l\u2019ordre d\u2019apposer sur les ailes et le fuselage des appareils les fameuses \u00ab bandes d\u2019invasion \u00bb blanches et noires. La consigne \u00e9tait simple : \u00ab S\u2019il y a des bandes, c\u2019est un des n\u00f4tres ; s\u2019il n\u2019y en a pas, on tire dessus. \u00bb Re\u00e7u tardivement au sein des unit\u00e9s, l\u2019ordre a parfois \u00e9t\u00e9 ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 h\u00e2tivement sur le terrain, produisant certains marquages pour le moins impr\u00e9cis : bords pas tr\u00e8s droits, bandes pas tr\u00e8s parall\u00e8les, coulures, ou autres jointures pas tr\u00e8s nettes... \u00c0 la guerre comme \u00e0 la guerre !<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7425\" style=\"width: 385px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7425\" class=\"wp-image-7425\" title=\"Bill Silberkleit, navigateur au 305th Troop Carrier Squadron, pose au retour d'une mission en Normandie le lendemain du Jour-J&quot;.
